Product Carbon Footprint
At WFI, we are working to increase transparency around the climate impact of our products. We therefore now publish the carbon footprint (CO₂e) of our products directly on our website. On each product page, a yellow label in the top-left corner of the image shows the product’s carbon footprint.
The carbon footprint represents the greenhouse gas emissions generated during the stages of a product’s life cycle included in the calculation. By making these results visible, we aim to provide customers, partners and other stakeholders with better information to support more informed and sustainable decisions.
How is the carbon footprint calculated?
The calculations have been developed in collaboration with Hållbarhetsteamet and are based on internationally recognised principles in accordance with the GHG Protocol Product Standard. This methodology is used globally to calculate and report the climate impact of products in a transparent and comparable way.
The calculations are based on both product-specific information and operational data from WFI’s overall carbon footprint assessment. Wherever possible, actual product data is used. In some cases, this is supplemented by established calculation models and industry data.
What do the results include?
The results include the climate impact from:
- Raw materials and components (A1)
- Transport of materials to production (A2)
- Manufacturing process (A3)
These stages correspond to what is commonly referred to as “Cradle-to-Gate”, meaning that the climate impact is calculated up to the point when the product leaves the production facility.
Transparency regarding data quality
We want to be transparent about the fact that carbon footprint calculations always involve assumptions and uncertainties. The results are influenced by factors such as the availability of product data, the quality of the underlying emission factors and which life cycle stages can be included.
Our product data sheets therefore also include an indicator of data quality, referred to as the specific data share. This indicates the extent to which the calculation is based on product-specific information compared with more general allocation models and standardised data. A higher specific data share means that the result is based to a greater extent on actual product data.

Data sources and standards
The calculations are based on internationally established climate databases, supplier information and other recognised sources of emission factors. The work follows the guidelines of the GHG Protocol Product Standard and uses climate data from well-established reference sources such as supplier data, EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) and recognised climate databases.
Continuous development
Measuring and understanding the climate impact of products is an ongoing process. As more detailed data becomes available and methodologies evolve, our calculations will be updated and refined.
Our ambition is to continuously improve the accuracy of our climate data and provide our customers with an increasingly clear picture of the environmental impact of our products.
What does CO₂e mean?
CO₂e stands for carbon dioxide equivalents and is a unit used to express the climate impact of different greenhouse gases in a common measure. This makes it possible to compare the climate impact of different products and materials in a consistent way.
